The Cause

Everybody knows that our world has major issues. Wars, climate change, economic crisis - they’re all awfully complex issues that can seem pretty overwhelming to small groups of people, whether it be a social sciences class, activist club, or concerned circle of friends.

Some of the world biggest problems, though, are found in surprisingly small packages. Malaria is one of them. Over one million African children - one every thirty seconds - die of the disease every year, simply due to exposure to something  many consider to be tiny, harmless nuisances: mosquitoes. Malaria, long eradicated from most of the world’s developed countries, continues to wreak havoc on economies, families, and individuals in the Global South.

Luckily, the non-complex reasons that malaria is widespread mean there are some pretty straightforward solutions to the problem, that you don’t need to be a diplomat, scientist, or economist to put into place.  For a cost of only $10, UNICEF is distributing bednets that have been proven extremely effective in limiting Africans’ exposure to malaira-ridden mosquitoes.  Mosquitoes Suck: The Tour exists to give your school, club or community group the chance to participate in this simple, but powerful, campaign.
